# Create an audience

> Create a static test audience and add your first contact.

Start with a static audience so that you can review every member before a campaign launch.

## Before you begin

[Configure API access](https://docs.gomobile.ma/developers/api-basics.md), [create a test contact](https://docs.gomobile.ma/quickstarts/create-contact.md), and save its UUID as `CONTACT_ID`.

**1. Create the audience**

```bash theme={null}
curl -X POST "$GOMOBILE_API_BASE_URL/audience" \
  -H "X-API-Key: $GOMOBILE_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"name":"Casablanca test contacts","type":"static"}'
```

Save the returned `id` as `AUDIENCE_ID`.

**2. Add your contact**

Send your contact UUID in the `contacts` array:

```bash theme={null}
curl -X POST "$GOMOBILE_API_BASE_URL/audience/$AUDIENCE_ID/add-contacts" \
  -H "X-API-Key: $GOMOBILE_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d "{\"contacts\":[\"$CONTACT_ID\"]}"
```

See [static audience membership](https://docs.gomobile.ma/developers/reference/audiences.md#add-contacts-to-a-static-audience) for the full contract.

**3. Check membership**

```bash theme={null}
curl "$GOMOBILE_API_BASE_URL/audience/$AUDIENCE_ID/contacts" \
  -H "X-API-Key: $GOMOBILE_API_KEY"
```

## Expected result

Your contact appears in the audience membership response. Creating an audience does not launch a campaign.

## Troubleshooting

Manual membership changes apply to static audiences. For a live audience, membership follows rules. A `404` can mean an ID is absent from the key’s organization. See [Audiences API](https://docs.gomobile.ma/developers/reference/audiences.md).
